Who is Sammy Wanyonyi?
Dr. Sammy Wanyonyi is a world evangelist. He is the Founder, President and Lead Communicator of Shine in the World Ministries (SHINE) and the visionary behind MERGE Twin Cities. Sammy speaks the language of today’s generation as he proclaims God’s truth rooted in the Bible. His message is fresh and practical making sense to his diverse audiences that have included governors, scholars, presidents of nations and of corporations, students, as well as masses of everyday people. From small informal gatherings to large stadiums and from academic halls to street corners, Sammy brings the message of God’s unfathomable love that reconciles us with God, others, the self, and the environment.
Born in a small rural Western Kenya village, he met Jesus Christ at an early age. At eight years old, He experienced the power of the Holy Spirit and a subsequent call to world-wide evangelism ministry. He moved to Minnesota, USA, in the winter of 1998, for missionary preparation studies at Bethany Global University in Minneapolis, earning a BA in Cross-Cultural studies and in Theology. He then proceeded to Bethel University and Seminary in St. Paul from where he earned both the Doctorate in global and contextual leadership and the Master of Divinity degrees.
In 2005, Sammy launched the global evangelism and leadership mission, SHINE. It exists as a vehicle to proclaim Jesus Christ to all lost peoples around the world, to mobilize and resource the local church in it’s passion to fulfill the Great Commission, and to equip the present and next generation of leaders in their spiritual quest and service to God and to society.
Through SHINE and it’s global partnerships, Sammy and the team have brought the message of hope through Jesus Christ to more than 3 million people in the United States and around the world over the last twelve years. They include such places as India, Malaysia, Rwanda, South Africa, DR Congo, Israel, Malawi, Botswana, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Burundi, Angola, among others. He has prayed with over 400,000 people in 23 different nations to enter into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
He sits on the Evangelism advisory committee of the Lausanne Movement, a global mobilizing movement founded by Billy Graham with the vision to bring the whole gospel, through the whole church, to the whole world. Together with his wife Suzanne and their children, they make their home in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul.
In October of 2017, Sammy was presented with the 2017 Alumnus of the Year Award by Dr. Jay Barnes, President of Bethel University during the Homecoming weekend.
